    Late Dr. K.S. Bakshi

    Dr. Kirpal Singh Bakshi, the legendary homeopath, was born on 12th Dec. 1915 at Rawalpindi (in West Pakistan). After graduating at Gordon Mission College, Rawalpindi, in 1936, Dr. Bakshi served in the Civil Secretariat Lahore. During the world war II, Dr. Bakshi got ethically driven to join the Indian Army, where he served as an officer for six years. For his meritorious services in the army, he was awarded a full-size, autographed photograph of the then Commander-in-chief, India, Gen. J.E. Claude Auchenlech.

    After partition of India in 1947, Dr. Bakshi had to redirect his career in India and joined Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College, for D.M.S. course in Homoeopathy. Academically brilliant as he was, Dr. Bakshi was awarded a Silver Medal in D.M.S. Intermediate, and a Gold Medal in the Final. After graduation, he started practicing Homoeopathy in Delhi in the year, 1952. However, wishing to share his knowledge with the new entrants to Homeopathy, Dr. Bakshi chose to serve in Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital and Dr. B.R. Sur Homoeopathic Medical College, New Delhi as a Professor and Head of Department of Materia Medica, besides running his own clinic. Later, judging his caliber for teaching, the Govt. of India engaged him as a guest lecturer in Teacher's Training Course held in Nehru Homoeopathic College, New Delhi under the auspices of Ministry of Health, Govt, of India in 1983. He also served as a member of Board of Homoeopathic System of Medicine, Delhi from 1976 to 1985 and as the president of All India Homoeopathic Medical Association (Delhi) from 1969 to 1973.

    With the desire to share his views on Homeopathy with the world, Dr. Bakshi regularly used to pen down his thoughts for various magazines, actively participate in several homoeopathic seminars and presented talks on health programmes on All India Radio and Television.

    Dr. Bakshi was also appointed as an the Honorary Physician to the President of India, Giani Zail Singh (1982-87). He also became the man behind opening a Homoeopathic Clinic in the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the first time. He served as a Consultant to many Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State and senior officers of the Armed Forces and Indian Judiciary that helped in providing political support to Homoeopathy. Dr. Bakshi also authored a book on Materia Medica ‘Homoeopathic remedies in verse’, which is among the famous homeopathic books in the profession. He was awarded the Hahnemann's International Award in 1986.

    He left for his heavenly abode on 3rd August 1992, for his unequaled services to the profession, Dr. Kirpal Singh Bakshi continues to live in the hearts of homeopaths even today.
