Boil, also called furuncle, is an infection of the hair follicle caused by infection of Staphylococcus aureus. It is characterised by a painful swollen area on skin due to accumulation of pus and dead tissue. They range from pea-sized to golf ball-sized. The lump is tender, warm and painful. Gangrene is the death of tissue by lack of blood, characterised by change in skin colour, to red or black, numbness, pain, swelling, breakdown of skin. Most commonly affected areas are hands and feet. Dry gangrene is due to a peripheral artery disease or limb ischaemia. Wet gangrene occurs due to blockage of venous or arterial blood flow and here the tissue is infected by saprogenic microorganisms which cause tissue to swell and become offensive. Action of Ingredients Echinacea angustifolia:The polysaccharides play an important role in the anti-inflammatory effect of Echinacea preparations. This remedy is indicated in case of septic conditions. In bed sores, chronic ulcerations, furuncles and carbuncles, it is of service both locally and internally. Intense itching and burning of skin on neck. Little papules on skin, with redness, feeling like nettles. Skin dry with small red pimples on neck and face (Boils). Indicated for Gangrene, snake bites and bites and stings generally. Foul discharges with emaciation and great debility. References:
