Types of Neuralgia Postherpetic Neuralgia: It is the most common long-term complication of varicella-zoster virus reactivation which is called herpes zoster or shingles. It is characterized by a lancinating or burning pain in a unilateral dermatomal pattern which persists for 3 or more months after the onset of herpes zoster outbreak with allodynia (experience of pain from stimuli that isn't normally painful), paresthesia, dysesthesias, pruritus and/or hyperalgesia at or near the rash. It is associated with a history of a unilateral rash with blisters in a dermatomal pattern. Trigeminal Neuralgia: It is one of the most painful neurological condition and is often described as 'lightning bolt' stuck on the face or a stabbing sensation on the face. It is characterized by recurrent brief episodes of electric shock-like pains affecting the 5th cranial nerve which supplies the forehead, cheek and lower jaw. These short-lasting paroxysms of pain occur multiple times throughout the day debilitating the patient. This condition is almost always unilateral and can involve one or more divisions of the trigeminal nerve. Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia: It is a rare painful condition characterized by brief paroxysmal painful attacks in the glossopharyngeal nerve distribution. Pain episodes can occur within minutes of each other and then stop entirely for days at a time. It is characterized by a brief episodic unilateral pain, which is sharp and stabbing in character, with abrupt onset and cessation, in the glossopharyngeal nerve distribution (angle of the jaw, ear, tonsillar fossa and the tongue base). Causes of Neuralgia The cause is unknown for some types of nerve pains, but most common known causes are:
Action of Ingredients:
Belladonna: Pains are throbbing, sharp, cutting, shooting or clawing of maddening severity, coming and going in repeated attacks. Severe neuralgic pain, that come and go suddenly. Violent attacks and sudden of onset. Complaints come suddenly. Magnesium phosphoricum: Useful for cramps, convulsions, neuralgic pains and spasmodic effects, showing its influence on nerves and muscles. The pains are shifting, better by rest, worse at night. Pains sometimes tense in paroxysms. Neuralgic pains relieved by warmth. Parts are tender to pressure and numb. Sharp, shooting like lightning pains, that suddenly changing places. Spigelia: Spigelia markedly affects the nerves, trifacial, heart, eyes, teeth, fibrous tissue and left side. Pains of neuralgias and headaches increases and declines with sun. Neuralgia of the fifth nerve. Stabbing pains. Pains are violent, burning like hot needles or wires, jerking, tearing, stitching, radiating to other parts. Very sensitive to touch. |
