Dysentery is defined by WHO as bloody diarrhoea, i.e. any diarrhoeal episode in which the loose or watery stools contain visible red blood. Dysentery is most often caused by Shigella species (bacillary dysentery or shigellosis) or Entamoeba histolytica (amoebic dysentery or amoebiasis). Other causes may include bacteria, parasitic worms, other protozoa, and certain chemicals. Poor sanitation acts as a risk factor for dysentery. Symptoms last for not more than a week and include diarrhoea with blood, mucus or pus, frequent urges for stool, fever, pain in abdomen, and feeling of incomplete defecation. Action of Ingredients: Ferrum phosphoricum: Stools watery, bloody, undigested. First stage of dysentery with blood in the discharges. Chronic diarrhoea. Summer diarrhoea. First stage of peritonitis.
