Acne or Acne vulgaris commonly known as 'Pimples', is a skin condition caused by over activity of the glands that secrete oily substances on to the skin mostly on face, chest and shoulders. Around three-quarters of all teenagers and young adults suffer from acne. However, men and women in their 30's and 40's can also suffer. Acne is characterised by the presence of black-heads, pustules with a depressed centre, whiteheads (comedones), inflamed spots (papules) and increased production of sebum (an oily secretion made by the skin) which leads to clogged pores. Several factors are involved in the development of Acne:
1) Acne begins in pilosebaceous units, which consist of sebaceous glands and a single hair follicle. The sebaceous glands produce an oily substance called sebum. 2) Sometimes, hormones produced in the Adrenal glands trigger the production of excess sebum, clogging the follicle and leading to bacterial growth. The resulting plug can appear dark and is called a blackhead or open comedo. 3) If the plug is below the skin surface, it is called a whitehead, or closed comedo. 4) But, if the pocket of sebum and bacteria becomes too large, the follicle will rupture, spilling its contents into the surrounding tissue. These tissues are damaged when the body's immune system attempts a repair, resulting in a papule, pustule, cyst or abscess. ACNE AID is a specialized, satisfactory homoeopathic formulation from Bakson's Homoeopathy, which acts quickly and effectively, and prevents excess production of sebum.
